The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team is set to compete in the Chattanooga Classic from March 28-30, 2025, in Ooltewah, Tennessee. The event marks the penultimate tournament of their regular season and will take place at The Honors Course, a par-72, 6,180-yard site, a notable venue that will host the 2026 U.S. Women's Amateur. The tournament will feature 16 teams, all ranked among the top 130 nationally.
Head Coach Josh Brewer expressed the team's readiness: "We look forward to competing again after our first break of the spring semester. You can see the excitement of the team to compete against many of the nation's top teams on an elite golf course."
The Eagles will send a determined lineup to the course, consisting of Savannah de Bock, Mariana Vega, Riley Kim, Erina Tan, and Angelica Holman. Leader Savannah de Bock has a 72.0 average and has been recognized as the MAC Golfer of the Week three times. She also boasts top 20 finishes in nine tournaments this year.
Eastern Michigan enters the week ranked No. 128 in the Scoreboard/Clippd NCAA Division I rankings, which is their second-highest ranking of the year. The team has two tournaments left before the postseason begins.
Assistant coach Caterina Don will participate in the 2025 Augusta National Women's Amateur between the team's two remaining tournaments.
The Chattanooga Classic will see participation from top-ranked teams like North Carolina, Virginia, Duke, and Vanderbilt, among others. Fourteen players are ranked in the top 125 nationally, including Savannah de Bock at No. 125.
The Eagles have shown a strong performance this season, registering several record-breaking scores and rounds. Savannah de Bock has captured notable finishes, including a victory at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic with a 12-under 204 score. Her performance has placed her on the 2024 ANNIKA Award Fall Watch List, a prestigious honor akin to the Heisman of women's collegiate golf.
Eastern Michigan's roster is undergoing changes, with six new players and a new coaching staff helmed by Josh Brewer, previously at Georgia. Brewer and Don have a history with Georgia, adding an interesting dynamic to the tournament as they encounter familiar teams.
Following this weekend's event, the team will prepare for the Boilermaker Classic in April, their final regular-season event before the 2025 MAC Championships.
