Eastern Michigan University's tennis team faced a narrow defeat against Western Michigan University, losing 4-3 in a competitive match on March 21 at the West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Eagles, now with a record of 7-8 and 0-2 in the Mid-American Conference, fought hard but couldn't clinch the victory as four singles matches extended to three sets.

Head Coach Ryan Kucera expressed pride in his team's performance despite the loss. "It was a really tough match today," Kucera stated. "I'm very proud of the team. They faced every bit of adversity and nobody gave up. We were resilient and kept pushing ourselves. It was really high-level tennis on all sides."

Western Michigan secured an early lead by winning the doubles point and increased their advantage with a win at No. 6 singles. However, Eastern Michigan responded with victories from Prerna Vichare and Marta Komar, leveling the score at 2-2.

The Broncos regained the lead with a win at No. 4 singles, but Viki Hazmukova tied it again for Eastern Michigan with her three-set triumph at No. 1 singles. The decisive match came down to Daniella Shved, who fought valiantly but ultimately lost in three sets at No. 2 singles.

The Eagles have played numerous close matches historically, holding a record of 109-98 in one-point matches overall and 42-45 against MAC opponents.

Looking ahead, Eastern Michigan will host Ball State University on March 23 at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
