Eastern Michigan University diver Megan Lupa has qualified for the NCAA Championships in platform diving. Competing at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, hosted by Ohio State University at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion from March 10-12, Lupa placed 10th in the finals with a combined score of 480.20 points.
Lupa's qualification marks only the second time in program history that an EMU diver has qualified for the platform dive, following Mugs Cullings' qualification 36 years ago. Head Diving Coach Tom Gimmera celebrated this as his first qualifier since taking on his role.
On March 12, Lupa secured her spot at the national championships with a personal-best score of 239.90 points in prelims and improved to 240.30 points in finals.
Other EMU divers participated in various events during the championships. Taityn Speier led EMU's performance in the 1m dive prelims on March 11, finishing 21st with a score of 240.65 points. In the earlier-held 3m prelims on March 10, Lupa finished in 25th place with a score of 258.15 points.
Lupa will now prepare to compete at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships set for March 22 at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way, Washington.
The upcoming schedule also includes competitions for Eastern swimmers starting tomorrow at F.A.S.T Facility in Ocala, Florida, running from March 13-15.
