The Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team faced a setback as their four-game winning streak ended with a 13-9 loss to the University of Cincinnati. The match took place on March 9 at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mackenzie Blackwell from North Beach, Maryland, led the Eagles with her sixth hat trick of the season. Maddie Porter from Montrose, New York, contributed 11 saves for the Eagles.
Cincinnati began strongly with a 3-0 lead before Emerson Henry scored for EMU. The Bearcats maintained their momentum and finished the first quarter leading 5-1. In the second quarter, Tracy Grollman managed to score for EMU, but Cincinnati extended their lead to 9-2 by halftime.
In the third quarter, EMU showed resilience by scoring three consecutive goals. However, Cincinnati added another goal to maintain a 10-5 lead going into the final quarter. Despite two more goals from Grollman and contributions from Abby and Amber Alderman, Cincinnati's early advantage proved decisive.
Mackenzie Blackwell scored all three of her goals in the fourth quarter, marking her sixth hat trick this season and adding to her career tally of multiple-goal games. Her performance included one free-position shot goal.
Other notable performances included Avery Schwab with two assists and Annika Wozney achieving a career-high five ground balls alongside two caused turnovers. Emerson Henry contributed across various aspects with one goal, three ground balls, six draw controls, and one caused turnover.
Maddie Porter's performance in goal tied for seventh-most saves in a single game in program history.
Looking ahead, EMU will begin Mid-American Conference play against Robert Morris University on March 16 in Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
