The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) women's golf team is preparing for their second tournament of the week, participating in the Gator Invitational scheduled for March 7-8 in Gainesville, Florida. Following a second-place finish at the River Landing Classic in Wallace, North Carolina, which concluded on March 4, the Eagles will compete against 13 other teams at the Mark Bostick Golf Course on the University of Florida campus.
The Eagles' lineup includes Savannah de Bock, Angelica Holman, Mariana Vega, Erina Tan, and Riley Kim. Notably, Savannah de Bock leads with an average score of 71.3 and achieved medalist honors at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic last September. The Gator Invitational has been held annually since 1973 and this year features 14 teams including top-ranked schools like Virginia and Ole Miss.
Four teams competing are ranked within the national top 50 according to Scoreboard/Clippd: No. 11 Virginia, No. 14 Ole Miss, No. 29 Florida, and No. 31 UCF. Additionally, individual players Caitlyn Macnab from Ole Miss and Amanda Sambach from Virginia are also among the top-ranked nationally.
The EMU team recently delivered a strong performance at the River Landing Classic with four players finishing in the top ten. Their total score of 881 was one of the lowest in program history.
Caterina Don, EMU's assistant coach, has been invited to participate in the Augusta National Women's Amateur this April. Meanwhile, Savannah de Bock has been named to the ANNIKA Award Fall Watch List after a standout fall season where she led nationally with rounds under par.
Looking ahead, EMU will compete next at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational hosted by the University of Texas on March 17-18.
