Eastern Michigan secures victory over Presbyterian College with standout performances

Eastern Michigan University triumphed over Presbyterian College with an 8-2 victory in a non-conference baseball game held on February 28 at the PC Baseball Complex. Key performances from senior Logan Hugo and junior Devan Zirwas contributed significantly to the win.

Logan Hugo, hailing from Essexville, Michigan, delivered an impressive performance by hitting a double and a home run, securing three RBIs. His teammate, Devan Zirwas from Imperial, Pennsylvania, also shone with two doubles among his three hits of the day.

The Eagles' pitcher Drew Beckner improved his record to 2-0 for the season. The senior pitched 7.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six batters. Junior Ethan Davis contributed as well by pitching 1.2 shutout innings.

"Zirwas' two extra-base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-5 day," detailed in the game report. "Hugo made his contribution with one double, one home run, one walk and three RBI."

Eastern Michigan began their scoring in the third inning when they managed to level the score at 2-2 through a run-scoring double by Zirwas. They took control in the fourth inning thanks to Harrison Travis's two-run homer which pushed them ahead to 4-2.

In the fifth inning, Eastern Michigan extended their lead with four more runs, including Hugo's three-run home run that cemented their position at 8-2 for the remainder of the game.

The game notes highlighted: "Beckner struck out six Blue Hose hitters," and noted that "every Eastern Michigan starter reached base safely in the win." The Eagles dominated offensively with a total of thirteen hits compared to Presbyterian's six.

Presbyterian was led by Jackson Hugus who had three hits including two doubles. Tyrell Williams pitched four scoreless innings for Presbyterian during this matchup.

The teams are scheduled to continue their series in Clinton with a seven-inning doubleheader planned for March 1st starting at noon ET.
