Eastern Michigan University's track and field teams completed the first day of the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at Bowen Field House. The men's team finished third with 29 points, while the women's team tied for sixth with 20 points.
Formula Thompson and Jake McEachern were notable performers for the men, both earning All-MAC honors. Thompson won his second consecutive individual MAC Championship in the indoor long jump with a leap of 7.44m, while McEachern placed second in the weight throw with a toss of 17.99m.
Samuel Jeffery had a strong showing in the heptathlon, standing third after day one with 2,805 points. He tied for first place in the high jump along with teammate Cason Doolittle. In sprinting events, Gabe Singh and Bamidele Ajayi excelled in the 400m dash prelims, securing finals appearances.
For the women, Marta Moreno's second-place finish in the 5000m earned her an All-MAC Second Team honor. Shay Clemetson took third place in the pentathlon with a personal-best score of 3,706 points. Saraiah Walkes performed well in preliminary sprints, winning the 200m dash and placing second in the 60m dash.
The men's team concluded their day with a second-place finish in the distance medley relay event. On Saturday, March 1st, Eastern Michigan will compete on the final day of championships beginning at 10 a.m.
