Despite a valiant effort, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team fell to Miami University in an overtime clash on February 26 at the George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti. The Eagles faced a significant deficit at halftime but managed to close the gap with an impressive shooting performance in the third quarter. Ultimately, they were unable to secure victory, losing 82-72.
The Eagles' record now stands at 2-24 overall and 1-14 in the Mid-American Conference. Brooklyn Thrash led EMU with a career-high 16 points, while Sisi Eleko recorded her 13th double-double of the season with 14 points and 16 rebounds. "Brooklyn Thrash had the hot hand as she finished with a career-high-tying 16 points," noted EMUEagles.com.
Miami established an early lead, maintaining it throughout most of the game. Despite trailing by as much as 23 points at halftime, Eastern Michigan rallied in the third quarter by hitting eight out of eleven three-point attempts. Olivia Smith contributed significantly during this period, bringing EMU within one point before Eleko tied the game late in regulation.
In overtime, Miami outscored Eastern Michigan 17-7 to secure their win. The loss marks EMU's second overtime defeat this season and extends their losing streak against Miami to three games.
Eastern Michigan will face Buffalo next on March 1 at Alumni Arena in Buffalo, New York.
