The Eastern Michigan University tennis team faced a setback in their match against the University of California San Diego, losing 5-2 at the Northview Tennis Courts in La Jolla. This was EMU's first outdoor match of the season and part of their initial two-match stint in Southern California.

In doubles play, UC San Diego secured a 1-0 lead by winning two out of three matches. The pair from EMU, Lara Diaz Zayas and Daniella Shved, achieved a victory at No. 3 doubles with a score of 7-5 after the point had already been decided.

During singles competition, UCSD clinched the win by taking victories in the first three completed matches at positions No. 2, No. 3, and No. 1. Sabina Brichackova gave EMU its first point with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles. Marta Komar added another point for EMU by winning her match at No. 5 singles in three sets.

This loss ended Eastern Michigan's three-match winning streak and brought their road record to 1-4 for the season.

Eastern Michigan will continue their California trip with a match against UC Riverside on Thursday.
