Eastern Michigan has won two previous MAC titles in consecutive years, 2006 and 2007, under former head coach Peter Linn. "The Eagles took home the 2006 MAC title," noted their success over the University of Miami by scoring a total of 637.5 points with seven All-MAC honorees. Madeline Pilchard was named Swimmer of the Year during that period.
In recent performances, EMU scored sixth place last year with notable performances from Rebekah Knapp in diving events and swimmers Nina Larosa and Kiersten Russell who achieved top program marks.
Under current head coach Derek Perkins, Eastern's best finish came in his first season when they placed third with 485 points. More recently, five divers have qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships scheduled for March in Columbus.
Key performers this season include Abby Szadorski, Nehir Oz, Siporah Sang, Azra Umut among others who have secured competitive times that would score points in upcoming championships.
"Currently, the Eagles have ten times that would rank inside the top sixteen in the conference," stated their standing entering these championships.
Looking ahead beyond these championships, select athletes will compete further into national competitions including CSCAA NICs and NCAA Zone C Diving Championships scheduled later this March.
