In the latest episode of The Eastern Insider podcast, hosts Tom Helmer and Greg Steiner discussed a significant moment in Eastern Michigan University's basketball history—a buzzer-beater by Jalin Terry. Helmer compared it to the "Miracle on Ice," noting Terry's ability to cover ground in 3.6 seconds before making the winning shot. This victory extended EMU's winning streak to three games, the longest active streak in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), enhancing their postseason prospects.

The team faces an important week ahead with opportunities to secure a spot in the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2018. Wins against Bowling Green and Central Michigan could ensure their place, shifting focus from survival to seeding. Helmer and Steiner stressed fan support at George Gervin GameAbove Center, despite reduced student attendance due to spring break.

The women's basketball team also achieved a notable win over Northern Illinois under Head Coach Sahar Nusseibeh's leadership. With upcoming matches against Miami and Buffalo, they aim to disrupt other teams' playoff hopes despite challenges with depth.

Other sports were also highlighted in this episode. EMU Gymnastics is preparing for a meet against Western Michigan and Wilberforce, while the MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships are set for Bowen Field House. Rowing coach Kemp Savage spoke about his team's transition to MAC competition, praising standout rower Lily Wilhelm's achievements. Baseball player Cooper Vance was recognized for his performance against Central Arkansas.

Kemp Savage shared insights into his rowing program's growth and Wilhelm's gold-medal performance at the World University Championships in challenging conditions. He noted her record-setting pace at EMU and expressed optimism about upcoming competitions.

Cooper Vance discussed his development as an everyday player, emphasizing consistency and adapting to the demands of a full season. He acknowledged improvements made during the offseason with help from coaching staff and highlighted contributions from new team members like Harrison Travis and Devin Zerwas.
