The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) lacrosse team is preparing for a two-game series in the Carolinas this week. The Eagles, currently with a 0-2 record, will face Presbyterian College and Gardner-Webb University on their home grounds. Their first match against the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College, who also have a 0-2 record, will take place at Bailey Memorial Stadium in Clinton, South Carolina on February 25th at 6 p.m. Following that, they will play against the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb University, who are winless after five games this season, at Spangler Stadium in Boiling Springs, North Carolina on February 27th at 2 p.m.
The Eagles have yet to secure a victory this season following losses to Notre Dame and Duquesne. Despite these setbacks, standout performances from players like freshman Katheryn Wilson and Maddie Porter offer some optimism. Wilson is tied for the national lead in free-position shot percentage with a perfect record so far this season. Meanwhile, Porter leads the NCAA in ground balls per game.
Mackenzie Blackwell continues to be an important player for EMU as she recently reached 100 career points during her collegiate tenure. This milestone comes as she scored four goals and provided one assist during the team's opener against San Diego State.
Under new head coach Maddie Dugan's leadership—who was named MAC Coach of the Year in 2024—the Eagles aim to improve their standings within the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The team's upcoming opponents both come from different conferences: Presbyterian competes within the Big South while Gardner-Webb faces challenges from various teams across different leagues.
Following these road games, EMU returns home to host Canisius University on March 1st inside their indoor practice facility.
