The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) gymnastics team is preparing to face Western Michigan and Wilberforce in a competition scheduled for Thursday, February 27, at the George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The event will commence at 6 p.m. and can be viewed on ESPN+. Fans have the option to follow live results available through links on the EMU gymnastics schedule page.
In their last outing against Central Michigan on February 14, senior Ella Chemotti achieved a notable score of 9.925 on beam, marking it as the fourth-best score in the program's history for that event. Sophomore Abby Brushwood also delivered an impressive performance with a career-high score of 9.875 on floor. Despite these efforts, EMU was defeated by Central Michigan with scores of 195.625 to 194.150.
Chemotti's achievement at Central Michigan made her the first gymnast in EMU history to secure four scores of 9.925 or higher on beam throughout her career. Her performance contributed to Eastern's total score of 49.025 on beam, which stands as their top mark this season.
Against Western Michigan earlier this season, Raisa Boris excelled with an all-around win and a season-best score of 39.200. During that meet, Boris scored a remarkable 9.875 on beam, while Brushwood matched her career high with a score of 9.850 on floor.
In other competitions this season, Kyrie Lowe secured her first career all-around win with a score of 38.850 at Northern Illinois on February 2.
Senior Raisa Boris has been recognized for her performances multiple times this season; she was named MAC Gymnast of the Week and MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week in January.
Eastern Michigan began its current season strong with victories over Bowling Green and at the Golden Girls Classic, achieving a start of 4-0 for the first time since at least 2001.
New additions to the team include seven freshmen recruits and assistant coach Lauren Volpe from Ball State University.
Looking ahead, Eastern Michigan will compete next against UC Davis and San Jose State in California before facing Sacramento State.
