The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) tennis team is set to host a doubleheader at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti on Saturday, February 22. The Eagles will face off against the University of Findlay at 3:30 p.m., followed by a match against Eastern Illinois University at 7:30 p.m. Admission to both matches is free for all fans.
The Eagles recently ended a four-match losing streak with a narrow 4-3 victory over Cleveland State on February 14. "Eastern defeated Cleveland State, 4-3, on the road (Feb. 14) to snap a four-match skid," noted EMU officials.
Originally scheduled to play Butler on February 16, EMU had to cancel due to snow and will instead host Saginaw Valley State on March 14. "The Eagles were to play Butler at home, Feb. 16, but snow forced the dual to be canceled and will not be rescheduled this season," according to the release.
In their upcoming matches, EMU holds a historical advantage over both opponents. They lead Findlay with an all-time record of 1-0 after defeating them last year and have also won their only previous encounter with Eastern Illinois back in January 2020.
Head Coach Ryan Kucera is in his second season with EMU and aims for consecutive MAC Tournament appearances—a feat last achieved by the team in the mid-2010s. "Ryan Kucera returns for his second season as the team's head coach and will look to guide the team to the MAC Tournament for the second year in a row," states EMU's announcement.
The current roster includes ten players from nine different countries, highlighting its international diversity. Notably, Viki Hazmukova has been instrumental this season, often securing crucial points for her team.
Findlay enters Saturday's match with one loss this season while Eastern Illinois carries a record of two wins and seven losses into their matchup against EMU.
