The Eastern Michigan University baseball team wrapped up its first series of the 2025 season with a loss to the University of Pittsburgh. The game, held at Centennial Park in Port Charlotte, Florida, ended with a score of 17-2 in favor of Pitt after seven innings on Sunday, February 16.

Senior pitcher Bobby Jones from Loveland, Ohio reached a milestone during the game by achieving his 100th career strikeout.

Pitt took an early lead by scoring three runs in the second inning and expanded their advantage to 10-0 by the end of the fourth inning. Freshman Connor Walsh from Mattawan, Michigan made his mark by hitting his first career home run for EMU in the fifth inning. This hit brought himself and Ben Schechterman from Aurora, Ohio across home plate.

Despite Eastern's efforts, Pitt continued to dominate by adding one run in the fifth and four more in the sixth inning. The game concluded after the top of the seventh inning with Pitt securing a decisive victory.

Walsh's performance was notable as he not only recorded his first hit and homer but also achieved his first multi-RBI game as an Eagle. This marked his second consecutive game with at least one RBI.

Other players making their debut included Schechterman who started for EMU while Ethan Davis from Brownstown, Indiana and Cal Rutherford from Canton, Michigan had their first appearances on the mound.

Eastern Michigan showed some strength at bat during advancement opportunities with a .375 average (3-for-8). However, this result leaves them with an overall record of 0-3 for the season while Pitt stands at 3-0.

Historically, this outcome adds to Eastern's record against Pitt which now stands at two wins and six losses all-time.

Looking ahead, Eastern Michigan will continue its road trip facing off against the University of Central Arkansas Bears over four games scheduled from February 21 to February 23 at Bear Stadium in Conway, Arkansas.
