Eastern Michigan falls to Western Michigan despite Boris' standout performance

Senior gymnast Raisa Boris achieved her fourth all-around victory of the season, despite Eastern Michigan University's gymnastics team losing to Western Michigan on Sunday, February 9. The competition took place at University Arena in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with a final score of 194.825-193.975.

Boris from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota scored a season-best 39.200 in the all-around category and won the beam event for EMU, which now holds an overall record of 4-3.

Kyrie Lowe from Lake Worth, Florida also competed in the all-around and finished closely behind Boris with a career-high score of 38.925 points. Lowe delivered EMU's top performance on bars with a score of 9.825, marking her second win in this event for the season.

On vault, four Eastern athletes—Boris, Lowe, Gwendelyn Cantu from Joliet, Illinois; and Alana Fisher from Athens, Alabama—each scored 9.700 points as EMU totaled 48.450 points in this event.

Abby Brushwood from State College, Pennsylvania matched her career high on floor with a score of 9.850—the second-highest score for EMU during the meet—as Eastern collected its second-best mark of the season in this category with 48.875 points.

The Eagles concluded their performance on beam where Boris led with a top score of 9.875 for Eastern that day. Fisher followed closely behind scoring a career-high of 9.825 while Katin Childress from Prosper Texas contributed to the team's total by achieving her personal best at 9.775.

Eastern Michigan will next compete against Central Michigan on Friday, February 14 at 6 p.m.
