EMU narrowly defeated by NIU in gymnastics meet

The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team faced a narrow defeat against Northern Illinois University on Sunday, February 2nd. The competition took place at the Convocation Center in DeKalb, Illinois, with NIU securing a victory by a slim margin of 193.375 to 193.300.

Initially, the Eagles were leading with a score of 193.300-193.275 until an inquiry by NIU resulted in an additional .1 point being awarded to the Huskies, altering the final outcome.

Kyrie Lowe from Lake Worth, Florida achieved her first all-around win with a total score of 38.850 points. Despite experiencing falls during the first rotation, Lowe managed to secure an event win on bars with a score of 9.775. Sanai Evans made her collegiate debut scoring 9.550 on bars.

Alana Fisher from Athens, Alabama claimed her first event win of the season by tying for first place in vault with a score of 9.725, contributing to EMU's overall vault score of 48.150.

Abby Brushwood excelled on floor exercise, achieving her first event win this season and matching her career high with a score of 9.850. Both Fisher and Priya Karle tied for third place on floor with scores of 9.775 each.

Raisa Boris delivered her best performance on beam with a score of 9.850, earning second place in that event after previously winning the all-around in three consecutive meets this season.

Eastern Michigan's next competition is scheduled against Western Michigan at 1 p.m., Sunday, February 9th.
