The Eastern Michigan University tennis team faced a challenging match against Michigan State University, resulting in a 4-0 loss at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center on February 2. The Eagles, with a current record of 2-4, were unable to overcome the Spartans, who improved their record to 4-2.
Michigan State secured the doubles point by winning matches at No. 1 and No. 3 positions while also leading at No. 2 when play was halted. In singles competition, victories at No. 5 and No. 4 helped the Spartans extend their lead before clinching the dual with a win at No. 3.
Head Coach Ryan Kucera acknowledged the difficulties faced by his team: "It was a tough day for the team," he said. "We competed well with good energy and spirit, but the tennis wasn't there. We didn't execute in the mid-court well enough and that got us beat on several courts."
In singles play, Viki Hazmukova and Regina Mendez showed promise by leading in their second sets after dropping their first ones; however, these matches remained unfinished as Michigan State had already secured victory.
Looking ahead, Eastern Michigan will engage in two duals next weekend—first against Cleveland State University on February 14 in Cleveland, Ohio, followed by a home match against Butler University on February 16.
