EMU athletes achieve multiple conference-best marks over two-meet weekend

The Eastern Michigan University track and field team had a successful weekend, competing in two events where they achieved multiple conference-best performances. The Jet's Pizza Invitational took place at the SVSU Field House, hosted by Saginaw Valley, while the Meyo Invitational was held at Notre Dame's Loftus Sports Center.

Kian Wiles from Hull, England, set a Mid-American Conference (MAC) best mile time of 4:03.26. Samuel Jeffery from Fonthill, Ontario, scored a MAC-best 4,924 points in the heptathlon. These performances were among several program top-10 heptathlon marks.

At the Jet's Pizza Invitational on Friday, freshman Shay Clemetson from Naples, Florida secured her first collegiate win in the pentathlon with 3,379 points. Her score ranks as the third-highest this season in the MAC. Samuel Jeffery finished second in the heptathlon with his personal-best score being noted as a MAC leader.

Cason Doolittle of Findlay, Ohio set a program record in the heptathlon 1000m at 2:44.01 and achieved other notable marks along with teammate Julien Badoo from Germantown, Maryland.

In South Bend at the Meyo Invitational on Friday, EMU’s women’s distance medley relay team posted the second-fastest time in the MAC for this season. Lachlan Cornelius placed third out of 20 competitors in the men’s 600m race.

On Saturday at Notre Dame, Kian Wiles placed second out of 37 participants in the open mile event while Carson McCoy ran an impressive time to claim second-fastest for this season's MAC standings in the 800m event.

Marta Moreno led EMU’s women by setting a personal best by nearly 27 seconds in her race to finish fifth-best all-time for EMU and fourth fastest within current conference rankings.

Eastern Michigan will next compete on February 8th during their indoor season tour which includes another stop at Michigan for participation in upcoming events.
