Eastern Michigan University's women's basketball team faced a challenging game against the University of Toledo, resulting in a 77-49 loss at the George Gervin GameAbove Center on February 1. Despite forcing 16 turnovers, the Eagles were unable to secure a victory during their Alumni Weekend and National Women and Girls in Sports Day celebrations.
Sisi Eleko stood out for Eastern Michigan with her 11th double-double of the season, scoring 16 points and securing 12 rebounds. "The MAC leader in double-doubles and rebounds," Eleko's performance was notable as she maintained her record of scoring at least ten points in 19 out of 20 games this season.
Olivia Smith also contributed significantly with 14 points, including nine in the first quarter alone. She continued her trend of reaching double figures by halftime for two consecutive games after scoring previously against Kent State. Her performance included a team-high three assists.
Despite these individual efforts, Toledo maintained control throughout the game. The Rockets started strong, leading by eight points early on and extending their advantage to ten by halftime. A dominant fourth quarter saw them execute a decisive 12-0 run that secured their win.
Olivia Westphal added to Eastern Michigan's efforts with one three-pointer, extending her streak to nine consecutive games with at least one successful long-range shot.
Although Toledo won the overall rebounding battle, Eastern Michigan had an edge on offensive rebounds, tallying twelve compared to Toledo's five. This aspect has been consistent for Eastern Michigan throughout the season.
The loss marks Eastern Michigan's eighth consecutive defeat against Toledo and leaves them with a record of 1-19 overall and 0-10 in Mid-American Conference play. They will look to improve as they face Miami University next on February 5.
