The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) cross country teams have been recognized with the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors. This achievement comes in a semester where EMU's Athletic Department reached a cumulative GPA of 3.438 for Fall 2024, marking the highest in its history. During this period, 72% of student-athletes and 94% of teams achieved above a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a team must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. The women's team at Eastern posted a GPA of 3.554, while the men's team recorded a GPA of 3.454, placing them second among EMU men's athletic teams. In Fall 2024, eighteen women achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher, with six earning a perfect score of 4.0. Fourteen men also surpassed the 3.0 threshold, with one member attaining a perfect score.
This recognition follows the achievement of thirteen individual student-athletes who received Academic All-MAC honors.
From the women's team, honorees included Sophie Emin from Easton, Pa., Ella Garvin from Indianapolis, Ind., Marta Moreno from Wassenaar, Netherlands, Chloie Musta from Mesick, Mich., Laisette Rachal, Cara Weber from Union, Ky., and Anita Zaro from Timisoara, Romania. Emin, Rachal, and Zaro were first-time recipients; Garvin and Weber received their second honor; Moreno and Musta were honored for the third time.
The men's honorees comprised Ronan Codyre from Auckland, New Zealand; Ty Dailey from Phoenix, Md.; Carson McCoy from Pittsburgh, Pa.; Sam Peterson from Charlevoix, Mich.; Aaron Schwieterman from Miamisburg, Ohio; and Kian Wiles from Hull, England. Codyre, Dailey McCoy and Schwieterman earned their first awards; Peterson and Wiles each received their second accolade.
The thirteen Academic All-MAC honorees represent the largest group since eighteen athletes were recognized in 2018.
Looking ahead to future events: EMU cross country athletes will participate as members of the track and field programs at two upcoming competitions—the Jet's Pizza Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State at SVSU Fieldhouse in University Center Mich., January 31-February 1—and the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame at Loftus Sports Center in South Bend Ind., on those same dates.
