The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) tennis team is set to compete in two dual matches this weekend. On February 1, the Eagles will host Oakland University at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti. The following day, they will travel to East Lansing to face Michigan State University.

The Eagles aim to recover from a challenging trip through southwest Ohio where they suffered defeats against Cincinnati and Dayton. Notably, EMU has consistently secured the doubles point in all matches this season. Freshmen Iva Daneva and Viki Hazmukova were recognized as the MAC Doubles Team of the Week for their performances last weekend.

Coach Ryan Kucera is leading EMU into his second season with aspirations of securing another MAC Tournament appearance, which would be a consecutive occurrence for the first time since 2014-2015. The current roster includes players from nine different countries, reflecting a diverse lineup.

Eastern Michigan's history against intrastate rivals stands at 101-111, with opportunities to improve that record against Oakland and Michigan State this weekend. A victory over Michigan State would be significant as it would mark EMU's first win over a Power 4 opponent since 2004.

In previous encounters, EMU has performed well against Oakland with an all-time record of 17-2. Conversely, they have struggled historically against Michigan State with only six wins in 47 meetings.

This weekend's matches are part of a broader schedule that includes several contests against fellow Michigan schools and other regional opponents throughout the spring season.
