Henry scores big but Eastern Michigan falls short against Miami

Christian Henry scored 25 points and contributed six assists, but Eastern Michigan University fell to Miami University in an 89-80 game at Millett Hall. The Eagles were behind by as much as 21 points in the second half but narrowed the gap to eight on four occasions before losing.

Trey Pettigrew initiated Eastern's scoring with the first four points, keeping pace with Miami in the early stages. A layup by Henry gave EMU a brief lead at 21-19. However, Miami responded with a 15-3 run, leading 47-38 at halftime.

Miami extended its lead with a 12-0 run at the start of the second half, achieving their largest advantage of 59-38. Eastern managed a comeback attempt with a 17-8 run but could not close the gap further than eight points.

Eastern Michigan now holds a record of 10-10 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while Miami improved to 15-5 overall and leads the MAC with a 7-1 record. EMU shot 43.5% from both field goals and three-point range, compared to Miami's shooting percentages of 49.1% from the field and 47.4% from beyond the arc.

Nelson's streak of scoring at least ten points ended after he scored nine points in this game, although he achieved a career-high three blocks. Henry is currently leading the MAC with an average of 18.8 points per game during conference play and has made at least one three-pointer in each of his last fifteen games.

Arne Osojnik added 15 points for EMU, Jalen Terry scored twelve behind four three-pointers, and Dillon Tingler recorded five rebounds within a short span during the second half.

Historically, EMU moved to a record of 29 wins against Miami's 56 victories in their encounters. Eastern has successfully made multiple three-pointers for fifty-five consecutive games and continues its streak of hitting at least one three-pointer in every game since January 24, 2004.

Eastern Michigan will face Western Michigan next on Saturday, February 1st.
