Eastern Michigan University's women's basketball team faced a challenging game against the University of Detroit Mercy, ultimately falling 72-61. Sisi Eleko was a standout performer for the Eagles, scoring a career-high 31 points and adding 14 rebounds, marking her fourth consecutive double-double.
The game started positively for Eastern Michigan as they led 18-15 at the end of the first quarter, with Eleko contributing nine points. Mackenzie Amalia also added two three-pointers to help build the early lead. However, the Titans gained momentum in the second quarter, establishing a ten-point advantage by halftime.
Elena Cabello made her mark by scoring her first points in over 600 days after recovering from an injury. Despite this effort and Eleko's continued strong performance with eight more points in the second quarter, Detroit Mercy extended their lead significantly after halftime.
In the final quarter, Eastern Michigan managed a late rally with a 12-0 run but could not overcome Detroit Mercy's lead. The Eagles capitalized on seven turnovers by Detroit Mercy during this period.
Several players reached personal milestones during this matchup. "Sisi Eleko continued to pile up the points and rebounds," finishing with four made triples and setting new career highs. Mackenzie Amalia achieved a season-best 13 points while Olivia Westphal maintained her streak of games with multiple three-pointers.
The loss brings Eastern Michigan's record to 0-5 for the season and marks their second defeat against Horizon League members this year. They now hold an all-time record of 15-17 against Detroit Mercy.
