Eastern Michigan University has announced the promotion of four key staff members within its athletics department. Vice President and Director of Athletics, Scott Wetherbee, confirmed the promotions on October 31. The individuals promoted are Dan McLean, Gretchen Fox, Clifford Sims, and Greg Steiner.
Wetherbee expressed his enthusiasm for the promotions: "We are thrilled to promote these exceptional leaders who have each demonstrated unwavering dedication to Eastern Michigan Athletics," he said. He highlighted their contributions to student-athlete success, facility enhancements, and external outreach.
Dan McLean has been elevated to Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director/General Manager for Golf. Since joining EMU in 2014, McLean has significantly contributed to the department's development efforts, including securing over $41 million in support. His work was crucial in obtaining an $8.2 million donation for the GameAbove Golf Performance Center. In his new role, McLean will continue overseeing fundraising and operations for EMU's golf programs.
McLean stated, "I am honored to step into the role of Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director/General Manager for Golf." He acknowledged EMU's importance in his career and expressed eagerness to further develop the golf programs.
Gretchen Fox has been promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for Health and Well-Being. Joining EMU in 2018 as Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine, Fox will now oversee health and sports performance programs for over 500 student-athletes at EMU. Her responsibilities include managing athletic training and nutrition services while serving as a sports administrator for women's rowing.
Fox expressed gratitude: "I want to thank Scott Wetherbee, Erin Kido, and President James Smith for their continued support in the health and well-being of our student-athletes."
Clifford Sims is now Senior Associate Athletics Director of Facilities, Operations, and Capital Projects after three years with EMU. Sims will manage athletic facilities and game day operations while directing revenue-generating external events.
Sims shared his appreciation: "I'm grateful for the opportunity to move into the new role as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Facilities, Operations and Capital Projects."
Greg Steiner has been promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs after 24 years with EMU. Previously serving as Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations, Steiner will now lead media relations, marketing, sponsorships, and other revenue functions.
Steiner commented on his promotion: "I am incredibly grateful to the entire administration for their trust and confidence in me."
The promotions come as part of Eastern Michigan University's ongoing efforts to enhance its athletics department through strategic leadership appointments.
