Chairman John Moolenaar and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi have expressed their approval of the U.S. administration's recent decision to authorize arms sales aimed at strengthening Taiwan's defense capabilities. The House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and Chinese Communist Party, led by Moolenaar (R-MI) and Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), praised this move as a measure to counter potential aggression from the Chinese Communist Party.

In a joint statement, they said, "We welcome the administration’s decision to approve the sale of defensive systems to Taiwan. The $2 billion sale of three National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS) and additional air defense radars will increase deterrence in the Indo-Pacific."

They highlighted that these systems have previously played a significant role in Ukraine's defense against Russian military actions. They believe that these arms will similarly bolster Taiwan's ability to defend itself amid rising military threats from China.

Moolenaar and Krishnamoorthi emphasized the legal commitment of providing Taiwan with necessary defensive tools. They stated, "We are bound by law to provide Taiwan with the capabilities to defend itself and must expedite the delivery of the arms Taiwan urgently requires."
