The Eastern Michigan University cross country teams are preparing to compete in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships. The event will be hosted by Ball State University on Saturday, November 2, at the Ball State Cross Country Course in Muncie, Indiana.
The women's team will participate in a 6k race starting at 11 a.m., while the men's team will compete in an 8k race beginning at noon. Reflecting on last year's MAC Championships held by Bowling Green State University, Eastern Michigan's men's team finished fifth with 139 points, and the women's team secured second place with 76 points. Notably, former Eagle Esme Davies was runner-up in the women's race with a time of 20:31.52. Other athletes who earned All-MAC First Team honors included Paige Marchant and Marta Moreno for the women’s team, along with Marcus Kemp for the men’s squad.
This year marks Eastern Michigan's 53rd consecutive appearance at the MAC Championships for men and their 45th for women. Historically, the men's team has claimed victory in this championship 25 times, most recently in 2021. The women's team has won five titles consecutively from 2015 to 2019.
Both teams are currently ranked within the Great Lakes Region according to the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). As of October 21, the women hold a No.10 ranking while the men are positioned at No.13.
In their latest competition on October 25 at Hudson Mills Metropark during the EMU Fall Classic, Nicholas Kline led two male participants with a personal-best time of 17:00.1. Frankie Moore achieved a personal-best of 19:00.2 leading her female counterparts. Drew Graves also recorded a personal best during this meet which did not include team scoring.
Looking ahead, Eastern Michigan will proceed to postseason competition at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional scheduled for Friday, November 15 at Silver Creek Metropark in Norton, Ohio.
