CMU faculty honored for contributions to diversity and inclusion

Two faculty members from the College of Science and Engineering at CMU have been recognized for their contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia.

Dr. Anja Mueller, a member of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, received the 2024 Dr. Diane E. Newby Award for Inclusive Excellence in Education. This award honors individuals dedicated to promoting inclusive practices, equitable opportunities, and just policies in education. Dr. Mueller's efforts to create inclusive classrooms and ensure accessibility to chemistry education have been acknowledged as exemplary.

Additionally, Dr. Xantha Karp from the Department of Biology was awarded the 2024 Stan L. Shingles Award for Distinction in Mentorship. This award celebrates mentors who foster learning environments based on diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice principles. Dr. Karp's research lab is noted for its inclusivity and support for students throughout their academic journeys. Her commitment extends beyond mentorship to her teaching and service within the department and university.

The recognition of both Dr. Mueller and Dr. Karp highlights their impact on advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within CMU's academic community.
