Central Michigan University (CMU) is set to host a national webinar focused on transgender inclusion in the workplace. The event will be led by Dr. Jon Humiston, Director of Noncredit and Alternative Enrollment at CMU’s Innovation and Online division, and CMU alumnus Aaric Guerriero. This initiative is part of the American Association for Access, Equity, and Diversity's (AAAED) 50th-anniversary speaker series.
The webinar, titled "What’s the T?: Steps to Creating Transgender Inclusion in the Workplace," will take place on Wednesday, November 13, from 1-2 p.m. ET. It coincides with Transgender Awareness Week, which aims to enhance understanding of transgender issues in society and workplaces.
Aaric Guerriero has experience developing inclusion programs across various industries. He emphasized the importance of creating inclusive work environments: “Creating an inclusive workplace isn't just a goal—it's a necessity,” he stated. “Hiring transgender and nonbinary employees isn’t just about diversity; it’s about equity, respect, accountability, and recognizing the inherent value each individual brings."
Both Humiston and Guerriero have been long-time advocates for LGBTQIA+ inclusion since their time as directors at CMU’s Office of LGBTQ Services. They have facilitated workshops nationwide to promote welcoming environments.
Dr. Humiston also established the James W. Jones Memorial Scholarship in 2020 to support students advocating for LGBTQ+ rights at CMU. In recognition of their efforts over 23 years promoting diversity at CMU, Humiston received the National Alumni Service Recognition Award in 2021.
Registration for those interested in attending the webinar can be completed online.
CMU remains committed to fostering a diverse environment that supports social justice and equity initiatives within its community.
The AAAED celebrates its 50th year as an organization dedicated to advancing equal opportunity across higher education, government, and private sectors through events like this speaker series.
