Eastern Michigan University (EMU) has announced a reorganization of its Track & Field program, aiming to maintain its longstanding success in the Mid-American Conference. The changes, set to take effect on July 1, involve key leadership shifts within the coaching staff.
Sue Parks will transition to the role of Associate Head Coach for Women's Track & Field while continuing as Head Women's Cross Country Coach. Chris Best and Sterling Roberts will assume shared leadership responsibilities as co-directors of the track & field programs. Best will serve as Co-Director of EMU Track & Field/Head Coach of Women's Track & Field, and Roberts will become Co-Director of EMU Track & Field/Head Coach of Men's Track & Field. Mark Rinker remains Head Men's Cross Country Coach.
"We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of excellence within our track & field program," stated Scott Wetherbee, EMU Vice President/Director of Athletics. "This reorganization reflects our strategic vision for sustained success and provides a solid foundation for our student-athletes and coaching staff to thrive."
Parks expressed her enthusiasm for returning to a more direct role with student-athletes: "After so many great moments as a head coach and director, I started thinking about what I wanted the next chapter of my coaching career to look like."
Chris Best acknowledged his new role: "It's truly an honor to be able to lead one of the most historic programs in the MAC." He emphasized gratitude towards his colleagues and mentors, including Sue Parks.
Sterling Roberts also shared his excitement: "I am thrilled to be able to have this opportunity alongside my new co-head coach, Chris Best."
The restructuring is designed not only to preserve but also enhance EMU's tradition of excellence in track and field under seasoned leadership.
