Former Eastern Michigan University athlete Donald Scott has been named to the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team, joining 591 other athletes representing Team USA in Paris this summer. The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee announced the official roster on July 10.
Scott, who competed for Eastern Michigan from 2010 to 2015, is notable as the only former Mid-American Conference student-athlete on the team. He secured his spot by finishing third in the triple jump at the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials held at Hayward Field, University of Oregon.
During his collegiate career, Scott earned All-America honors three times and was a five-time All-MAC First Team selection. His achievements include setting indoor and outdoor conference meet records in the triple jump, which still stand today.
Scott's performance extends beyond conference levels; he set program records for both indoor and outdoor triple jumps during NCAA Championships events in 2015. These records remain unbroken.
The participation of college athletes plays a significant role in Team USA's success at the Olympics. This year, about 75% of U.S. Olympians have collegiate experience from various institutions across NCAA Divisions I, II, III, junior colleges, NAIA schools and club programs.
USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland acknowledged this contribution: "We are incredibly grateful for the collegiate athletics administrators, coaches and support staff who inspire greatness in the student-athletes who will represent Team USA in Paris this summer."
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11 with over 10,000 athletes competing across different sports. The opening ceremony will be broadcasted on NBC and Peacock.
Donald Scott is scheduled to compete in the men's triple jump qualification round on August 7 at 1:15 p.m. ET.
