Eighteen EMU rowers named CRCA national scholar-athletes

Eastern Michigan University (EMU) has announced that 18 of its rowing student-athletes have been recognized as Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athletes. The announcement was made on Thursday, June 6.

To qualify for this honor, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher, be in their sophomore year or later, and have participated in at least 75 percent of their institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat races during the spring season or regional conference event. This year, a total of 768 Division I student-athletes received this recognition.

The EMU honorees for the 2024 season include seniors Laura Borchers from Troy, Ohio; Olivia Bray from Ypsilanti, Michigan; Reagan Fazekas from Hillsdale, Michigan; Megan Fowler from Belleville, Michigan; Jessica LaRoy from Monroe, Michigan; Christina Lin from Ypsilanti, Michigan; Anna Old from St. Clair Shores, Michigan; juniors Kat Childs from Hanover, Michigan; Olivia Hansen from Ann Arbor, Michigan; Kaycee Johnson from Artesia, New Mexico; Carly Summers from Novi, Michigan; Lily Wilhelm from Noblesville, Indiana; Emma Wyss from Miamisburg, Ohio; sophomores Delani Fisher from Elletsville, Indiana; Julia Maxwell from Romulus, Michigan; Ella Warrick from Livonia, Michigan; Abigail Zola from Grand Forks, North Dakota and graduate student Chloe Hinojosa from Kewanee, Illinois.

Notably receiving the honor for the second time are Borchers, Bray, Fazekas LaRoy and Wilhelm while Hinojosa is being recognized for the third time.

In recent competitions at the CAA Championships on May 16th: The First Varsity Eight boat won the Petite Final with contributions by Borchers Wilhelm Fowler and Wyss. The First Varsity Four boat secured fifth place in the Grand Final aided by Johnson and LaRoy recording a time of 8:53.257. Another fifth-place finish was achieved by the Second Varsity Eight boat with help by Fazekas Fisher and Zola clocking in at 7:39.253.
