Eastern Michigan University has appointed Josh Brewer as the new head coach of its women's golf program. The announcement was made by Scott Wetherbee, EMU's Vice President and Director of Athletics, following a substantial $6.5 million donation from GameAbove to support EMU Golf.

Brewer, who brings 12 years of Division I coaching experience, previously led the University of Georgia's women's golf team to significant achievements, including 16 tournament wins and multiple NCAA Championship appearances. His tenure at Georgia was marked by numerous victories and records set by his teams and players.

Wetherbee expressed confidence in Brewer's ability to enhance the program: "It is my pleasure to welcome Josh Brewer as our new head coach for the women's golf program," he said. "With an impressive track record of excellence, he brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven history of success."

Brewer himself expressed gratitude for the opportunity: "I'd like to thank Eastern Michigan University, Scott Wetherbee, Dan McLean, and GameAbove for this opportunity," he stated. He outlined his vision for the program focused on winning championships at both conference and national levels.

GameAbove's recent financial commitment underscores its belief in EMU Golf's potential. This contribution increases their total support to over $14.5 million—the largest single-donor contribution in EMU sports history.

In addition to his accomplishments on the course, Brewer has been recognized for academic achievements with his teams maintaining high GPAs throughout his career at Georgia. His recruits have also excelled beyond college golf with several going on to compete professionally.

Brewer's coaching career began after a successful playing stint at Indiana University where he played a key role in securing a Big Ten Conference Championship in 1998. Before joining EMU, he held positions at Indiana University and Southern California.

The appointment comes shortly after the opening of the GameAbove Golf Performance Center at Eagle Crest Golf Course—a facility aimed at enhancing training opportunities for EMU’s golf teams.

Eagle Crest Golf Club has recently been ranked No. 9 among top college golf courses by Golf Pass Golfers' Choice 2024—an accolade reflecting its commitment to providing an excellent golfing environment.
