Eastern Michigan University Soccer Team Achieves 4-0 Record for First Time Since 1999

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team improved to a 4-0 record for the first time since 1999. Senior Maddie O'Farrell's goal in the 17th minute led the Eagles to a 1-0 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday, Aug. 29, at Scicluna Field.

O'Farrell's goal came from assists by redshirt freshman Josie Langhans and sophomore Olivia Sipsock. PFW nearly equalized in the 56th minute but hit the crossbar.

Redshirt sophomore Ella Holland made three saves, securing her third clean sheet of the season. The Eagles outshot their opponents 13-10 and had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Eagles now hold a record of 4-0-0 while PFW stands at 2-2-1. O'Farrell scored her second goal of the season and her career's eleventh. Sipsock has earned points in each of the first four matches, replicating Angela Vultaggio's feat from 2012. Langhans recorded her second assist this season.

Historically, Eastern leads PFW with a series record of 5-1-1. This match marks EMU’s first win without multiple goals against PFW.

Eastern Michigan will next face the University of Cincinnati on Sept.1 in their inaugural match against a Big 12 Conference opponent, airing on ESPN+ at 1 p.m.
