For Eastern Michigan University senior defensive back Joshua Scott, the upcoming football season represents more than just another opportunity to play; it is a chance to demonstrate his resilience after a challenging year.

The 2023 season was difficult for Scott. An injury limited him to only nine snaps, an experience he describes as humbling. "This whole last year just made me really hungry," Scott reflects. "Even though I was hurt, I was still working—watching film, getting right in the weight room. I knew I needed to put myself in the right position to succeed this year."

Scott's return has been marked by his role as a leader on a defense with high expectations. He has embraced the responsibility of guiding a young secondary. "It's an honor to be called a leader on this team," Scott says. "With a lot of new faces in the room, I've really taken that leadership role to heart."

His on-field persona, known as "Seatbelt Scotty," originated during his time at junior college and symbolizes his ability to lock down receivers. "That came from my junior college DB coach, Brandon Younger," Scott recalls.

As he prepares for his final season at Eastern Michigan, Scott is motivated by the team's motto for the year, "BET" (Believe Excellence Together). Reflecting on 2023's challenges, he states: "BET means a lot to me because it's like a bet season for me."

Outside of football, Scott values personal memories such as the Nissan Sentra gifted by his grandfather. Looking ahead, he dreams of upgrading his car but remains focused on leading his team and excelling on the field.

Scott has a message for Eastern Michigan's fans: "Come out, show out, and be loud for us." His determination suggests that Eagle Nation can expect something special this season.
