The Eastern Michigan University Baseball Team has been awarded the American Baseball Coaches' Association's (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, as announced on Wednesday, July 24.
The ABCA recognized over 800-member college and high school programs nationwide for the 2023-24 academic year. The award, presented by Sports Attack, honors programs that achieved a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
This year, nearly 350 high school programs and more than 470 collegiate programs received the accolade.
Eastern Michigan University's baseball team posted a cumulative GPA of 3.431 for the academic year, with notable performance during the winter semester where 26 members achieved a GPA over 3.0, including three who attained a perfect 4.0.
Several team members have also earned individual academic honors. Nick Chittum, Logan Hugo (Essexville, Mich./Essexville Garber), Bobby Jones (Loveland, Ohio/St. Xavier/Xavier), Blake McRae, Logan Milene, Glenn Miller, Cory Taylor, and Cooper Vance (New Waterford, Ohio/Mohawk) were named Academic All-MAC on June 21. Chittum was recognized for his third consecutive season; Hugo, Miller, and Taylor each received the honor for the second time; while Jones, McRae, and Vance were first-time recipients.
Additionally, Chittum, McRae, Hugo, Miller, and Taylor earned CSC Academic All-District distinctions on June 4 by maintaining GPAs above 3.50 while participating in at least 90% of their team's games.
