Eastern Michigan University senior defensive back David Carter Jr. has been nominated for the 2024 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, an organization that honors college football student-athletes for their dedication to community service and their contributions off the field.

This year's nominees support various causes including mental health awareness, youth mentorship, hunger relief, and domestic abuse prevention. Each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group and maintain strong academic standing to be considered for the team.

"You'll never regret making someone else's life better," said Tim Tebow, a former national champion, Heisman Trophy winner, and past recipient of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team honor. "Year after year, I'm inspired by these incredible nominees who go above and beyond to help others."

Carter has made significant contributions both on and off the field. Last season, he recorded 20 tackles, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Notably, he tied his career high with six tackles against UMass and had a memorable 98-yard interception return for a touchdown against No. 17 Wisconsin in 2021. Carter graduated with a degree in Communication from EMU in April 2024.

Off the field, Carter is dedicated to community service, having completed 20.5 hours this year alone. He has participated in EMU's Annual Victory Day, engaging with cognitively and physically impaired community members, visited local elementary schools to read to students, and assisted at the VA Hospital. His volunteer efforts also include working with Foundation Preschool, Huron Valley PACE, Christian Love Fellowship Church Day of Reading, and assembling food boxes at Prodisee Pantry during bowl week in Mobile.

The final roster of 23 award recipients will be announced later in September. It will include 11 players from the FBS level, 11 from FCS divisions II and III as well as NAIA levels, and one honorary head coach.

Allstate is also partnering with the Wuerffel Foundation to combine two significant awards in college football. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List will be released on August 1.
