EUGENE, Ore. (EMUEagles.com) – Former Eastern Michigan University Men's Track & Field student-athlete Donald Scott has qualified for the United States' Olympic Team in the triple jump. Scott secured his spot with a third-place finish, jumping 16.87m (55-04.25) at the United States' Olympic Track & Field Trials held at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field on Sunday, June 30.
Scott's qualification marks his second Olympics appearance, making him the eighth former Eagle to make multiple Olympic teams and the first since Eric Alejandro, who competed for Puerto Rico in both the 2012 London games and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro games. Scott previously competed in the Tokyo games in 2020, where he placed seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 17.18m (56-04.50). The Eagles have had a representative in every Olympics since 1960.
During his tenure at Eastern Michigan University from 2010 to 2015, Scott was named to the All-America team three times and earned All-MAC First Team honors five times. He holds both indoor and outdoor conference meet records in the triple jump within MAC record books. His indoor record stands at 16.38m (53-09.00), set in 2015, while his outdoor record is marked at 16.29m (53-03.50).
Scott also broke EMU's program records for both indoor and outdoor triple jumps five times each during his collegiate career. His indoor program record is set at 16.84m (55-03.00), and his outdoor program record stands at 16.83m (55-02.75). Both records were achieved during NCAA Championships events.
Scott is scheduled to compete for Team USA in the qualification round of the men's triple jump on Wednesday, August 7, at 1:10 p.m ET. NBC will broadcast all Olympic events.
