On August 8, 2023, Crain’s Detroit Business reported that Gotion wants to begin hiring for its planned project in Mecosta County. The report stated, “Gotion promises 2,350 new direct jobs. The average hourly wage is $24.50.” For a 40-hour work week that comes out $980 before taxes, or $50,960 over 52 weeks.

However, in April, the Detroit News reported that “Gotion has said in its application for a property tax exemption, it expects an annual average wage at the facility of $61,995.”

On August 8, 2023 announced annual average wage is over $10,000 less than what Gotion promised on its application to receive tax relief.

“On August 8, 2023 news shows that Gotion misled state and local leaders on legal documents about how much it would pay Michigan workers. How many other misleading statements did Gotion and its U.S. subsidiary make in order to claim more than $1 billion in taxpayer funding for its project in Mecosta County? From nondisclosure agreements that hide details from the public to the obvious national security concerns in our country’s competition with the Chinese Communist Party, this project is wrong for Michigan,” said Congressman John Moolenaar.
