On May 18, 2023, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration introduced its 2024 budget for the Department of Agriculture. Congressman John Moolenaar is a member of the subcommittee and the 2024 budget includes his community project funding requests to help residents and communities in Michigan.

Included in the bill is $2,000,000 for the Midland County Snag and Debris Removal Flood Prevention and Watershed Protection Project from the Natural Resources Conservation Service at USDA. Also included is $1,000,000 for the Sparta Fire Department Expansion and Renovation Project from USDA’s Agency on Rural Development.

"As Michigan's only member of the House Appropriations Committee, I am proud to help bring this targeted funding to our communities. The funding for Midland County will help prevent flooding and improve stormwater drainage in a community still recovering from the catastrophic flooding of 2020. The funding for Sparta will help keep residents safe, with new improvements for first responder equipment and emergency medical response. I encourage community leaders in the Second District who are interested in funding projects for their community to reach out to my office for more information,” said Moolenaar.
