Allison Spooner began writing before she could even write

A1

Allison Spooner began writing before she could even write. As her youthful imagination concocted narratives, she’d recite them to her mother, who put them to page. Since then, Allison has published two collections of short stories and is in the process of publishing her recently completed novel.

She explores the light and dark sides of humanity, primarily through flash fiction — stories under 1,000 words. This form of writing gets her “unstuck,” a result Allison extends to her fellow writers. She founded Creative Warrior, an online program and YouTube channel designed to stimulate creativity through the combination of yoga and writing prompts.

As the director of content for The Artist's Umbrella, she helps the organization shine the spotlight on all varieties of performers, from painters to opera singers, to fire dancers. "There are so many talented people in Lansing, and I love being a part of a community that is so supportive of each other,” says Allison.

As Lansing continues to grow, Allison hopes that the arts community grows with it and is recognized for the value it creates.
