The Gladwin County Community Foundation (GCCF) has announced its COVID-19 Response Fund, which is intended to help relieve some of the economic strain affecting the community.
“The Gladwin County Community Foundation is committed to serving individuals and organizations affected by COVID-19 in the Gladwin community,” Pamela Cingano, GCCF vice chair, told the Midland Daily News. “We are happy to make an impact on the livelihood of our neighbors in need.”
In order to make the best use of available funds, the community foundation is working with other nonprofit organizations in order to determine how to put the money to use.
Anyone interested in contributing to the fund can go to The Gladwin County Community Foundation and click "giving" in the menu near the top of the page. When making a donation, individuals should enter "COVID-19 Response Fund" in the fund name field.
Any preference for where the donation goes -- such as to nonprofits or to small businesses -- must be entered into the "special note or request" field.
Donations can also be made by mail, with payment sent to GCCF, P.O. Box 480, Gladwin, MI 48624.
Additional information is available at The Gladwin County Community Foundation or by calling 989-839-9661.
“There are still a lot of unknowns with COVID-19,” said Cingano. “What we do know is that GCCF will be there to support Gladwin County.”
Prior to creating the COVID-19 Response Fund, the foundation has taken other recent steps to encourage economic resilience locally. The foundation made $10,000 available to the Michigan Small Business Relief Program, through the Gladwin County Economic Development Corporation.
That money is intended to make small business grants possible. It is designated for assistance to small businesses located within Gladwin County.
According to the foundation's website, community foundation funds operate by pooling money donated from around the community in order to then grow that money and provide long-term capacity to invest in projects and needs around the local community.
