Central Michigan University issued the following announcement on Feb. 23.
Central Michigan University officials and police are assisting in the investigation of an assault involving a knife on multiple victims – two confirmed as CMU students – just before midnight Saturday at Wayside Central in Mount Pleasant. One CMU student is in custody. The two student victims were taken to local hospitals and are listed in stable condition. There is no ongoing threat to the campus community stemming from this incident.
The suspect was arrested on campus without incident around 2 a.m. Sunday morning following a coordinated search and investigation conducted by the Mount Pleasant Police Department and assisted by the CMU Police Department.
The safety and support of our campus community is our No. 1 concern. CMU staff and administration are supporting the victims and the CMU Counseling Center has several resources available for those who need support. Anyone who would like to speak with a counselor can call 989-774-3381.
I commend the swift action of our dedicated CMU police officers working alongside MPPD to ensure the safety of our students and the entire campus community. The university will update the campus community as additional information becomes available or is warranted.
