John G. Kulhavi Events Center liquor license bill now in Senate

Ilc

State Rep. Roger Hauck (R-Beal City) sponsored a bill that would pave the way for the John G. Kulhavi Events Center on the campus of Central Michigan University to be added to buildings considered conference centers and therefore eligible for a liquor license.

House Bill 4912 would designate the facility as such, thereby making it eligible to sell and serve alcohol. Hauck introduced the bill in the House in September.

HB 4912 was previously passed in the House by an overwhelming 106-2 vote and the university has also voiced its support.

Representatives gave the bill immediate effect, and it now requires an immediate two-thirds supermajority in support in the Senate. If a supermajority of senators approve the measure in the same fashion, the license becomes instantly becomes valid with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s signature.
