Retirement happy 1000x667

Central Michigan University issued the following announcement on Oct. 21.

After nearly 45 years as an employee of Central Michigan University, Roger Rehm, the university's first chief information officer, has announced his plans to retire next summer.

Rehm began his tenure at Central in 1975, teaching oboe in what was then the Department of Music, now named the School of Music. He held this position until 2002, accompanied by several administrative roles, including assistant director of the school from 1985-97 and assistant to the dean of the College of Communication and Fine Arts — now the College of the Arts and Media — from 1997-2002.

He was named interim associate dean of the college in 2002, then associate dean in 2003. In the fall of 2004, he was named interim chief technology officer in the Office of Information Technology. Following a national search, Rehm was named the university's first chief information officer in 2006.

Rehm supported the launch of SAP's Student Lifecycle Management (CMU's current student information system) and four major university website redesigns; guided the expansion of OIT's Information Security practice; and obtained funding for, designed and opened a new CMU Data Center. He also oversaw the construction of most of CMU's current network, as well as the initial installation and expansion of Wi-Fi on campus. Under his leadership, information technology system reliability and levels of customer satisfaction also have steadily improved.

Outside of work, Rehm has served as principal oboe of the Midland Symphony Orchestra since 1999 and regularly performs with the organization.
