State Representative Tom Kunse has announced the winners of an art competition aimed at the 100th district, the theme of which was “Celebrating Rural Michigan through Art.” This district-wide event was orchestrated to encourage artistic expression reflecting the rural culture and landscapes of Michigan.

Representative Kunse announced the winners as Carson Lockwood and Emily Daniels. Lockwood, a 14-year-old ninth-grade homeschooler, received recognition as the high school winner. Emily Daniels, a sixth grader from Harrison Middle School, was acknowledged as the winner for the middle and elementary school category. Kunse praised their artworks, noting, “Both of these young artists have captured the essence of rural Michigan in unique and inspiring ways.”

In addition to acknowledging the winners, Kunse extended gratitude to the educational institutions involved, including Harrison Middle School, Farwell High, Clare Primary, and GT Norman Elementary in Reed City. Recognizing their contributions, he stated, “A big thank you goes to the students and staff at Harrison Middle School, Farwell High, Clare Primary, and GT Norman Elementary in Reed City for their support and participation.” He further announced a donation of $250 to each school for art supplies to encourage continued artistic exploration.

“It’s awesome to see such creativity and enthusiasm from our students,” Kunse said, expressing appreciation for all participants. He encouraged them to continue nurturing their artistic abilities. The selected pieces are currently on display in his Lansing office, representing the community’s artistic spirit and culture.

The winning artworks by Emily Daniels and Carson Lockwood respectively were noted in the competition’s awards, showcasing the local talent and reflecting Michigan’s rural beauty through their presentations.
