Today, Congressman John Moolenaar cast his vote in favor of H.R. 1, known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This legislation aims to support middle-class families in Michigan by making permanent the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act for individuals and joint filers. Additionally, it includes reductions in income tax on tipped wages and overtime pay.

The bill incorporates Moolenaar’s NO GOTION policy, which restricts companies linked to the Chinese Communist Party from qualifying for green energy production tax credits established by the Biden administration. Having passed both chambers of Congress, the bill now awaits the President’s signature to become law.

Moolenaar stated, “The One, Big, Beautiful Bill delivers on President Trump’s agenda, avoids a devastating tax hike on the middle-class and small businesses, and cuts taxes on tips and overtime.” He emphasized that his NO GOTION policy ensures that “the tax dollars of hardworking Michigan families do not go to companies like Gotion,” which he claims is affiliated with the CCP.

The NO GOTION policy prevents foreign entities deemed concerning from claiming green energy production tax credits under Biden’s “Inflation Reduction Act.” Gotion is identified as a subsidiary of Gotion High-Tech, a battery company based in China. In a Foreign Agents Registration Act filing amendment, Gotion acknowledged its subsidy by the Chinese government.

By extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanently, this bill seeks to avert a potential 25% tax increase on Michigan families while saving them an average of over $1,300 annually. It also offers additional relief by reducing federal income taxes on tipped wages, overtime pay, and interest on loans for American-made cars.
