The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) tennis team is set to host two important Mid-American Conference (MAC) matches this weekend. The team will welcome Western Michigan University on Friday, March 28, and Miami University on Sunday, March 30, at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti.

Eastern Michigan (8-8, 1-2 MAC) will seek to rebound from a recent 4-3 loss to Western Michigan (9-8, 1-2 MAC). The weekend’s competition is a chance for EMU to reach a milestone 175th all-time MAC victory. Ryan Kucera, EMU’s head coach in his second year, has led the team to a strong home record, with the Eagles winning 18 of 19 matches at home since he joined.

Kucera remarked on the team’s overall standing: “The 2025 MAC Preseason Coaches Poll was released Jan. 7 with the Eagles voted to finish third with 35 points while Miami (48) and Toledo (38) were ranked ahead of EMU.”

The Eagles also look to improve their performance against Michigan teams, having a current record of 3-3 this season. Against Miami, EMU aims to end a losing streak, having lost their previous 20 meetings against the RedHawks.

Eastern’s lineup is diverse, with players from nine different countries contributing to the team’s dynamics. The roster includes six returning players and four newcomers, and players have gained various accolades this season. Sabina Brichackova and Prerna Vichare, in particular, have greatly contributed to doubles as a dominant pair over recent seasons.

Looking ahead, the Eagles will face the University of Toledo and the University at Buffalo in upcoming away matches. Kucera highlights the aim to repeat the success of reaching the MAC Tournament, stating, “Should Eastern return to the tournament this year, it would be the first time the Eagles have qualified for the MAC Tournament in back-to-back seasons since earning berths in the 2014 and 2015 events.”

The matches this weekend promise to be crucial in determining the trajectory of EMU’s season, with free admission provided for fans attending at the Chippewa Club.
