Eastern Michigan University freshman diver Megan Lupa has made history by becoming the first Eastern diver to compete in the platform dive in 36 years. She also became the first EMU freshman diver to compete at the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships in program history. At the 2025 edition of the meet, Lupa placed 45th in the 10m platform dive prelims with a score of 208.35 points. The event was hosted by the Seattle Sports Commission, Washington State University, and Federal Way, Wash., at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center on March 22.

Lupa, from Campden, Ontario, was notable as she was the only Mid-American Conference (MAC) diver among the national qualifiers this year. She joined three other MAC student-athletes at the meet: swimmers Abigail Daniel from Akron, Zita Szoke from Ohio, and Madeline Padavic from Miami. Across the country, Lupa was one of just 13 freshmen who competed in the platform dive.

Lupa’s qualification marks her as only the second diver in Eastern Michigan history to reach NCAA nationals in this category. The last time an EMU diver qualified for nationals was when Mugs Cullings did so during the 1989 season.

Having recently been named Mid-American Conference Freshman Diver of the Year, Lupa secured her spot at nationals with a combined score of 480.20 points at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships on March 12—a collegiate personal best for her. This qualification is noted as Eastern Michigan’s 16th all-time and is a first under Head Diving Coach Tom Gimm.

Lupa’s participation concludes Eastern Michigan’s swimming and diving season for 2024-25.
