Mackenzie Blackwell’s performance was key as Eastern Michigan University (EMU) lacrosse team defeated the University of Detroit Mercy, 13-8, in a Mid-American Conference match. Blackwell scored five goals, helping EMU reach a strong 13-3 lead before the Titans managed to narrow the gap. This victory marked EMU’s third consecutive win against Detroit Mercy.

The game began with a scoreless four minutes until the Titans took a 1-0 lead. EMU responded shortly after, tying the score through Blackwell. By the end of the first quarter, the Eagles were leading 3-1. In the second quarter, EMU extended its lead with seven goals, securing a 10-2 lead by halftime. Key contributions came from Katheryn Wilson and Amber Alderman, assisting Blackwell in extending the scoreline.

The third quarter saw EMU build on their advantage, with Blackwell achieving her fifth goal of the match. The Titans attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring five goals, but EMU’s earlier efforts ensured their victory.

Mackenzie Blackwell’s performance was notable, as she tied for the seventh-most goals in a single game for EMU. “Blackwell recorded her 10th hat trick of the season,” and finished the game with a total of 42 goals for the season. Tracy Grollman contributed significantly as well, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

Maddie Porter had an impressive record in the game with 11 saves and seven ground balls. The Eagles improved their overall record this season to 6-6, moving up in the conference rankings.

Up next, EMU has scheduled games against the University of Oregon and Kent State University.
